You’re not alone.

This article is for informational purposes only. Course formats, physical requirements, and certification standards may vary depending on the provider.
Always confirm requirements with your training organization. In an emergency, call 911 and follow professional medical guidance.
Is There an Age Limit for First Aid Training?
There is no upper age limit for taking a first aid course.
People of all ages attend training in Lethbridge, Coaldale, Taber, and across Southern Alberta.
However, some physical components—like CPR compressions—can be challenging for individuals with:
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Reduced upper body strength
That said, participation is always encouraged.
👉 Even if you have limitations, the knowledge you gain can still help you respond in an emergency.
Is CPR Level C Different From Standard First Aid?
Yes—but they are closely connected.
- CPR Level C focuses on CPR techniques for all ages (adult, child, infant)
- Standard First Aid includes CPR Level C plus additional training such as:
- Wound care
- Injury management
- Medical emergencies
👉 If you want more complete training, Standard First Aid is usually the better choice.
Will My First Aid Course End Early?
In most cases, no.
OH&S-approved courses must follow strict guidelines, including:
- Required content
- Minimum instruction time
- Hands-on practice
Ending a course early by skipping material would risk invalidating the certification.
👉 Expect your course to run for the full scheduled duration.
How Many People Are in a First Aid Class?
Class sizes can vary, but typical ratios are:
- 1 instructor to 10 students (ideal)
- Sometimes up to 1:12 or 1:20 depending on the provider
Smaller classes often allow for:
- More personalized instruction
- More hands-on practice
- Better interaction with the instructor
What If I Feel Nervous or Uncomfortable?
This is very common—especially for:
- Introverts
- First-time students
- People uncomfortable with hands-on learning
The good news:
First aid courses are designed to be:
- Supportive
- Interactive
- Beginner-friendly
Instructors focus on creating a comfortable environment where everyone can learn at their own pace.
