Here are some more frequently asked questions by our participants looking to take a first aid and / or CPR course with Lethbridge First Aid.

When will I get my certificate?

Participants that successfully complete any St Mark James Training Course will immediately receive a wallet sized certificate. If the course is basic or intermediate first aid it is an OH&S approved certificate.

How long is my first aid certificate valid for?

All certificates, except for mask fit testing, are valid for 3 years. This includes courses such as basic, intermediate and BLS courses.

What first aid course do I need?

This is one of the most difficult courses to answer. We always encourage participants to ask their workplace or school to determine what course they need. Typically people that work with children require intermediate first aid. Individuals that work with no children typically need basic first aid. Participants that work in a health care facility with trained back up typically require basic life support CPR (BLS).

Which CPR Certification is Best?

The most comprehensive and detailed CPR course is Basic Life Support as it includes all the components of the other CPR courses and adds additional materials for health care providers.

Which First Aid Certification is Best: Standard / Intermediate vs Emergency / Basic? 

Not sure if there is an answer to this question. Standard / intermediate first aid includes all of the component of basic / emergency first aid. If you’re not sure what course to take or if you want to get more knowledge we encourage that you take Standard / intermediate first aid.

During CPR do we have to do Pulse Checks?

Participants that enrol in CPR level A and C will not learn pulse checks in the course. Participants that enrol in basic life support will learn how to do pulse checks.

What is Compression Only CPR and will I learn it in a first aid course?

Participants enrolled in any first aid and / or CPR course will compression only CPR and when it is applicable. This is part of the St Mark James Training program standards.
